Friends of Oregon Ridge Speaker Series – Maryland's Charismatic Carnivorous Plants Kerry Wixted, Maryland Naturalist

Carnivorous plants seem like something from folklore, but did you know we have almost 20 species growing in Maryland? Discover the remarkable adaptations that enable these plants to thrive in different environments by capturing and digesting prey. This talk will highlight the unique diversity of carnivorous species found in Maryland and showcase captivating examples from around the globe.
Kerry Wixted is a Maryland naturalist with more than 15 years’ experience studying flora and fauna of Maryland. A project-driven ecologist and self-proclaimed nature nerd with a penchant for education and outreach, Kerry is a dynamic and popular speaker, educator and trainer. She is currently the vegetation ecologist for the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission in Prince George’s County and has previously worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Kerry holds a B.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management from Frostburg State University, and a M.S. degree in Biology from West Virginia University.
Adults $10 per person (FREE for Friends of Oregon Ridge Members)

Members may only register guests who are covered by their membership. All other guests must register separately as a non-member. This program will be presented in-person at Oregon Ridge Nature Center. All fees paid are considered donations and are not refundable unless the Friends of Oregon Ridge cancels the program.
